Comment on Mentoring: How to Become a Charity Champion by Phili Wetton https://www.rebeccacurtismoss.co.uk/mentoring-how-to-become-a-charity-champion/#comment-334 Mon, 24 Apr 2017 09:33:24 +0000 http://www.rebeccacurtismoss.co.uk/?p=568#comment-334 ACOSVO http://www.acosvo.org.uk/about-acosvo also have a very worthwhile free mentoring programme in operation supporting our third sector leader membership. I would echo Rebecca’s comments regarding the benefits, both to the mentees and mentors themselves. One of our long term mentors recently commented: “The changes I see happening to mentees are both external and internal. Sometimes the external shift is clearly visible. Some move on to new jobs or make a major career change; some cultivate new interests and passions; some forge new relationships and networks; and some resolve serious issues around leadership style or management. But if the mentoring process has worked well, both mentor and mentee often register an internal shift as well – a change in mental habits or attitude, an enhanced capacity for self-reflection, a shift in perspective, or a willingness to stand back and consider a new approach or option. I have observed that many mentees may be quite isolated in the workplace and that it comes as a relief to be able to talk to someone who is unconnected to their environment, keenly interested in them, and wholly non-judgmental.”

I did google ‘Rebecca Curtis’ and it came up with a horse trainer!

I agree, you have got to make people feel valued and engage with them, go the extra mile and hopefully they will return and give their support.
